MATCH List (TMF) Explained: How to Get Off and Get Approved

January 20, 2025

What Is the MATCH List?

The MATCH list (Member Alert to Control High-Risk Merchants), formerly known as TMF (Terminated Merchant File), is a database maintained by Mastercard. It contains information about merchants whose accounts have been terminated.

Why Merchants Get Added to MATCH

  • Excessive chargebacks (over 1%)
  • Fraud
  • Processing violations
  • Business closure with outstanding chargebacks
  • Identity theft or misrepresentation
  • How Long Do You Stay on MATCH?

Merchants typically remain on the MATCH list for 5 years from the date of addition.

Can You Get a Merchant Account While on MATCH?

Yes! Being on the MATCH list doesn't mean you can't process payments. It means you need a specialized processor who:
